AMA (NSW) DIT Committee Meeting With Jillian Skinner
Last night, the AMA (NSW) DIT Committee had a special meeting attended by Shadow Health Minister, Jillian Skinner. It was great to have the opportunity to be able to speak to Mrs Skinner for just over an hour about important things like safe hours, training, the award, industrial coverage, workplace bullying, hospital governance and a range of other issues.
Jillian Skinner began by saying, “The dreams I have for fixing the health system won’t work unless I have you guys are on board… I look forward to giving you my thoughts and ideas but I also want yours.
One of the key things she says she’ll work on is the public health system’s culture.
“I often say that one of my first goals will be to change the culture of the public health system: the bullying, the harassment, the inability of people to speak out, the fact that people’s opinions are ignored. That’s going to be a major task in the first instance and it’s about leadership but it’s also about giving local people the ability to be responsible and accountable,” she said.
