Brian Owler: Fatal crashes remind us of the terrible cost of road accidents
AMA (NSW) Councillor, A/Prof Brian Owler, says recent deaths on NSW roads serve as a terrible reminder of the human costs of road accidents.
“Recent crashes in Sydney and Orange which devastated two families and resulted in the deaths of children and adults – as well as severe injuries – are timely reminders of the effects of road accidents this holiday season.
“It was events like these that prompted me to contact the NSW Government to see what I could do to help reduce the number of fatal accidents in the first place,” A/Prof Owler said.
“They are reminders that drivers need to take all possible precautions when driving – you need to concentrate, not drive fatigued, reduce your speed to match the conditions and don’t rush.
“I’ve been working with the Government on the ‘Don’t Rush’ campaign for a year now and I want to remind people of that message before the holiday break.
“Please, take care over the holiday period as road accidents don’t just affect you.
“They can affect your family, your friends, passengers, other drivers and pedestrians.
“Road accidents can result in death, lifelong injury and grief for those closest to you,” A/Prof Owler said.
“This holiday period, please don’t rush.”
